Puerto Rico Consortium for Clinical Investigation presents its 3rd Summit October 28-29

The 17th U.S. General Surgeon shares a new insightful perspective about COVID-19 Pandemic

September 26, 2021 – To strengthen the value of representative health and encourage people to collaborate with scientific advancements, the Puerto Rico Consortium for Clinical Investigation (PRCCI) will host its 3rd PRCCI 2021 Summit focused on “Aligning Global Partnerships and Community Engagement with Clinical Research: Opportunities Beyond the Pandemic,” announced Dra. Amarilys Silva-Boschetti, PharmD, BSPharm, RPh, PRCCI executive director. 

This virtual continuing education event for healthcare professionals and others interested in clinical investigation will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on October 28 and 29.  Silva-Boschetti; Eng. Luz A. Crespo Valentín, Chief Executive Officer of the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust; Lester Martínez López, MD, MPH, Major General (Retired) US Army and chairman of the Board of Directors of PRCCI and Puerto Rico’s Department of Health Secretary, Carlos Mellado-López, MD will open this comprehensive event.

Keynote speaker Richard H. Carmona, MD, MPH, FACS and 17th Surgeon General of the United States (2002 to 2006) will enrich this clinical investigation exchange with his presentation “COVID-19: the Great Divider, Uniter, and Accelerator”, in alignment with a group of other 19 distinguished local and international speakers. The agenda includes individual presentations, panel discussions and Question and Answer Sessions addressing the following core topics:

  • Securing Community Engagement and Community Stakeholders for Clinical Services and Clinical Research
  • Refining and Re-defining Telemedicine and Telehealth
  • Globally Partnered Health Clinics and Training: Sharing Expertise Remotely
  • On-going Clinical Intervention and Public Health Challenges

For Silva-Boschetti, there is an important role for representative health. “The interaction between patients and communities is a way of building trust among them, promote more participation in clinical studies and achieve scientific results with proper population representation,” said Silva-Boschetti who has a solid background in clinical research, medical affairs, pharmacovigilance, outcomes research, managed care and regulatory affairs throughout manufacturing operations across the world.

“We need the active participation of everyone,” said Silva-Boschetti. “Innovation and new medical-scientific frontiers may be complex issues for some, but combined with available technology and practices they have the potential of benefitting thousands of patients and generate positive outcomes.”

Silva-Boschetti highlighted the collaboration of PRCCI with entities such as Northwell Health co-sponsor of the Summit and the and the Yale Center for Clinical Investigation, University of Yale which generates new opportunities to increase knowledge in clinical research fields among healthcare professionals. The expansion and updating of educational efforts within these fields facilitates for patients to access new treatments and therapies and envision potential for a better well-being, she concluded. 

Healthcare professionals registering for this event could earn up to eight hours of CE/CME credits.
