Learn about how to participate in clinical studies. Contribute to your well-being and that of other Hispanic patients with your condition.

What is Clinical Research?

Clinical research is the study of health and disease in people to improve health and reduce the risks and complications of chronic and/or disabling diseases.
This type of research carries out two types of studies:

Clinical studies – those that observe health situations so that research teams can understand the problems and propose better solutions.
Clinical trials – those that implement and evaluate new treatments to better prevent, detect or treat a disease.

In Puerto Rico, the Consortium for Clinical Research, also known as PRCCI, works hand in hand with research teams around the island so that patients can benefit from these opportunities. We collaborate with different patient support groups, health institutions and other organizations to provide access to health research services.

Clinical research offers hope for many people. It’s an opportunity to help researchers discover better treatments for the future.

Clinical Research and You

Your safety is a priority in the investigation processes. In Puerto Rico, all research teams must follow the safety protocols and requirements of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory agencies.

Your participation is always voluntary and you have the right to terminate at any time without penalty. Before you decide whether to participate in a study, the research team must give you all the important information about it, such as: benefits, risks, and your rights. If you agree, you will be asked to sign the informed consent form before beginning your participation.

It is very important that Hispanics and Latinos participate in studies and clinical trials. Your participation is key to advancing health equity.

Learn about the need for Latino participation in clinical research in the video by Dr. Adelaida Rosario of the Division of Scientific Programs at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities.

Community Survey

At PRCCI we wish to provide you with more and better opportunities to participate in studies and clinical trials in which all Puerto Ricans feel comfortable and safe participating. For this reason, we are collecting information through the Questionnaire on Patient Perception and Opinion on Clinical Research.

By answering this brief survey you help us understand your needs to improve the health services available.
